Abstract

The inverse method, developed and improved in the last decade, is a robust mathematical statistical procedure of the paleostress tensor reconstruction on measured planes of mechanical discontinuity and a-lineation (striation) on them. Its increasing use is the reason for this presentation of the fundamental principles of the method.
