On the occasion of the 110 years of the journal
Abstract
One hundred and ten years have passed (1889-1999) since the first volume of the Annales Géologiques de la Péninsule Balkanique appered, which included this jounal among our oldest naturalistic editions. At the and of the last century, mainly thanks to Jovan M. Žujović, the founder of the Geological School amd promoter of the geological science in this region, the first geological journal on the Balkan appered. The idea was to gather all experts involved in geological explorations and related fields, and make their results accessible not only ti professionlas, but to all other possible users of the geological knowledge and results of geological explorations.
Annales Géologiques de la Péninsule Balkanique started as an official scientific-professional organ of the Geological Institute at the former High School which developed into the University of Belgrade at the beginning of the 20th century. Later on, depending on where the successor of this first Geological School of Serbia belonged, but always following its continuity and staying firmly bound to the University as a publisher, the Annales Géologiques de la Péninsule Balkanique were, at the beginning, the journal of the Faculty of Philosophy, then of the Faculty of Natural Sciences and Mathematics, and finally, during the sixties, the journal became the organ of the Faculty of Mining and Geology to whom it has belonged since.
